Somatic Trauma and Fascial Release Therapist

I've spent a large proportion of my adult life working in education with young people who have experienced significant childhood trauma. However, my lived experience of trauma led to the realisation that, while qualifications and careers provide a solid foundation, true growth is impossible without healing unresolved issues. The modalities I offer brought me genuine relief, and it is a privilege to help others experience the same.

I trained as a Somatic Trauma and Myofascial Release Therapist with Simonetta Logan at the School of Holistic Therapy in Edinburgh. Simonetta studied Somatic Trauma Therapy with Babette Rothschild and is also an advanced practitioner of Somatic Experiencing® (Dr Peter Levine). I am forever indebted to Simonetta and the tutors on the course. Their wealth of knowledge and feedback has allowed me to work effectively with clients to enable them to make genuine progress. The main syllabus contained units on the nervous system, trauma, fascia and attachment but the core message was one of client safety.

Adding stress into an already overwhelmed system by working too quickly is something that should be avoided because it ultimately leads to slower progress: the nervous system will signal danger and once that happens the drawbridge goes up. This wisdom has shaped how I work; I work slowly during the first few sessions to ensure that the client experiences what safety feels like. One of the course tutors likened it to letting air out of a balloon a little at a time; working in this way allows the nervous system to make sense of what's happening and, over time, the amount of 'air' you can release increases as the nervous system recalibrates.

Practising Fascial Maneuvers was something that I began to explore to alleviate daily aches and pains and, whilst it does both of those things, it also provides a daily nervous system reset and is extremely grounding and therapeutic. I have spent years trying to rectify tight muscles and battling injuries but this modality gently releases the fascia and provides a daily sense of wellbeing. For me, the fact that the maneuvers are combined with breathwork is what makes it so effective.

I offer sessions online by video across the UK, as well as in person around Bristol and North Somerset. As a therapist, the long-term goal is to offer classes so that people can experience the aforementioned benefits as part of a community.
