Online somatic therapy

Does somatic therapy work online?

Yes. Somatic therapy is built on your attention to your own body and nervous system, not on physical contact, so it translates well to video.

Most of my somatic therapy clients now work with me online, from anywhere in the UK. There is no need to retell your story, and you stay in control throughout.

Online sessions

Why it works online

Somatic therapy asks you to notice internal sensations: where you feel tension, what the sensation is like and how it changes. This is a skill you build by paying attention to your body, and you can do that just as well at home as in a therapy room.

On screen I can see your face, posture and breathing, and hear shifts in your voice. That is enough for me to notice when you are becoming overwhelmed, to slow down and to pause. No physical touch is involved in online sessions. Many people find being at home helps: your own chair, your own blanket, a space that already feels familiar.

Preparing

What you need for an online session

A private, quiet space where you will not be interrupted. A phone, tablet or laptop propped at eye level, so I can see you from the chest or waist up. Headphones, if you would like extra privacy.

Somewhere comfortable to sit, with a blanket and a glass of water within reach. We leave a few minutes at the end of every session to settle, so you do not have to jump straight back into your day.

Choosing

Online or in person: which is right for you?

Somatic therapy works both ways. I see clients online anywhere in the UK, and in person around Bristol and North Somerset. I do not have a therapy room, so in-person sessions take place at your home or another suitable place. Online is often the easier choice if you live outside the Bristol area, have a busy or unpredictable schedule, find travelling tiring, or feel safest starting from home.

In person can suit you if you would rather share a room, or if you would like hands-on work. Myofascial release is a hands-on therapy, so it is offered in person only. Fascial Maneuvers, guided movement with breathwork, can be done online or in person. If you are unsure which suits you, the free consultation is the place to talk it through.

Getting started

What happens in your first online session

You can start with a free 15-minute consultation, where you can ask questions and find out whether my approach feels right for you. The first 60-minute session begins with settling in and checking how you are arriving.

I explain how we will work and agree how to pause or stop. We begin with grounding, and you may like to explore an anchor: a place that helps you feel steady. Then we start gentle body awareness, in small doses with plenty of pauses. You will not be asked to relive anything, and you can slow down or stop at any point.

Fees

What online sessions cost

A 60-minute online somatic therapy session costs £80. The first 15-minute consultation is free, and there is an introductory offer of 10 sessions for £650.

A limited number of slots are available for people experiencing financial hardship. You can see all of my fees on the My Fees page.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to share the details of my trauma online?

No. Somatic therapy does not require you to retell your story. We work with what your body is doing now, and you decide how much, if anything, you tell me.

Is online somatic therapy as good as in person?

Both are ways of doing the same work: building awareness of your body and helping your nervous system settle. Online, the work relies on your own noticing and on how closely we pace things together. The right choice is the one where you feel safe.

What if I feel overwhelmed during a video session?

We work slowly, in small doses, and we pause whenever you need. I will be watching and listening for signs that you are becoming overwhelmed, and you can always say stop.

Is somatic therapy a replacement for medical or psychiatric care?

No. It is a supportive therapy. If you are in crisis, please contact your GP, NHS 111 or Samaritans on 116 123.
